Artist Statement

‘Time and the bell have buried the day...’

History and place provide a narrative and structure to current practice which is driven by a fascination with the fragments and residue left upon the landscape by previous generations. With the focus on colour and texture, the pieces aim to reflect the layers of history within an evolving landscape through a representational rather than a literal view.

Current work has its roots in the poetry of T. S. Eliot, drawing upon the imagery evoked by Four Quartets and is underpinned by the emotive themes of Romanticism and The Sublime.

The aim is to allow the viewer to interpret the image in their own way.
