Rebecca Perry

Artist Statement

Rebecca Perry’s work ‘Gaia’, focuses on the idea of a mother nature, a nurturing element intrinsic to all natural life. By using grass, a living but often overlooked plant it is showing how the simple things in life can offer beauty and tranquillity.

Contradictory to this idea of an organic object that has been left to flourish the artists other work ‘The Rape Of Gaia’, depicts how mankind has taken many kinds of  organic produce and mass produced them for the convenience of humans, within an environment that mimics natural conditions and life. The wilting plant matter highlights the notion of waste within this system. Emphasising the problem that man takes more than needed to sustain themselves, thus abusing the Earth’s natural resources and creating unnecessary waste.
