Artist Statement

Exploring paint as a medium and employing the female figure as a vehicle, my practice is an on-going enquiry concerning the human body and the possibilities of its manifestation within an art context. Contemplating gesture and surface in order to open up the notion of the haptic, the spectator is able to discern the movements and body of the artist. Often portraying semi-whole figures, the work breaks into the space around it, blurring the distinction between figure and background. Thus the viewer's eye is slowed down and the work fully open to modes of perception and interpretation.
